Science Timmins is back with new interactive exhibit (2 photos)

Get hands-on with the Science of Guinness World Records until Dec. 2

Science Timmins is back in action with a new exhibit.

Today, the Science of Guinness World Records launched at the downtown Timmins facility.

“It gives us an opportunity to tell everyone that we’re back like we were before and we will be getting more exhibits. It’ll get the ball rolling,” said Science Timmins chair Lorraine Cantin at the launch.

The Science of Guinness World Records is on tour in northern communities, said Lora Klausen, Science North's senior scientist of northern initiatives.

Science North partnered with Ripley's Entertainment to develop the interactive exhibit that's in Timmins for six weeks, until Dec. 2.

“It’s featuring all kinds of feats and incredible activities for everyone to enjoy to see if they can beat or match a world record and have an opportunity to take part in this really great exhibit,” said Klausen.

There are physical and mental challenges.

Klausen said there is a lot of science behind how world records are set.

"There’s a lot of training and preparation that goes into it so people can try that out, see for themselves. They can come up with an activity that they might feel they could break a world record with and prompt that,” she said.

This is the first exhibit for Science Timmins since before the pandemic.

The village located at 225 Fifth Ave. reopened at the beginning of the month. Cantin said it's been very quiet and is hoping schools will bring classes for the new exhibit and for other STEM activities.

Science Timmins is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Proof of vaccination is required.
