The students and staff of Schumacher Public School have received a welcome gift! At the Nov. 21 meeting of the Board of Trustees of District School Board Ontario North East, Best Buy Timmins General Manager Mike Lee presented the school with a cheque in the amount of $5,000 U.S.
“Staff at our Timmins store took part in a contest that was hosted by the company Intel,” said Lee. “Our staff placed third among over 4,000 teams throughout all of North Amercia. It was very exciting. One of the most amazing things from that third place win was that we were given the opportunity to donate our prize to a local school. This is something we are very proud of.”
“I want to acknowledge the outstanding effort from Best Buy on their award. To come in third out of 4,000 stores is really impressive,” commented Board Chair, Doug Shearer. “We are very grateful that they would think of us to give that award to. It is very much appreciated.”
Staff at the school are surprised and thrilled with the gift.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for our school to receive this money, and we are very thankful to the Best Buy team,” added Schumacher Public School Principal, Pat Chertow.
“We will put the money to good use by purchasing a new stove and washing machine for the school. Any additional money will go towards our daily breakfast and monthly lunch programs.”
