DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD ONTARIO NORTH EAST

The Board of Trustees of District School Board Ontario North East is proud to announce the appointment of Bruce Hayter as trustee for the Hearst-Kapuskasing area. The decision was made public during the Sept. 19 meeting of the board.

Hayter replaces Wayne Major, who resigned from his post on Sept. 18, after having served seven years of an eight-year term. Hayter is a past member of the Hearst High/Clayton Brown Public School Parent Council, having served as a member, secretary, and eventually council chair.

He has also served as a parent member of DSB ONE’s Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the last few years. “I am just absorbing the news, but am very happy,” said Hayter. “I’ve met almost all of the board members on previous occasions, and look forward to working with them.”

“It’s important for our board to have voice from all three regions so I’m really excited that Bruce will be joining us,” commented Director of Education, Lesleigh Dye. “He comes with a very strong background – understanding students with special needs, as well as teaching. We look forward to working with him.”

“We’re very pleased to have him on board for the remainder of our term,” added Board Chair Doug Shearer. "Trustees play a vital role in representing their areas and ensuring that the board is balanced and fiscally responsible. For him to travel from Hearst to Timmins on a regular basis is a significant commitment. We look forward to having him here.”

Hayter will attend his first public meeting as part of the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
