NEWS RELEASE

TIMMINS ABORIGINAL ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTEE

**************************
The Timmins Aboriginal Organizations Committee is pleased to present the 2014 National Aboriginal Day celebration, “Gathering of Nations” on Saturday, June 21 at the Hollinger Park.

The Timmins Aboriginal Organizations Committee has been working hard to bring an exciting, fun-filled day to the residents of the City of Timmins with some culturally specific entertainment and tastes.

Please come and help us celebrate by welcoming the day at 5:30 a.m. with a Sunrise Ceremony, hosted by Elder Alice Sutherland.

This early morning ceremony celebrates new beginnings and welcomes a fresh start for the first day of summer.

Misiway Milopemahtesewin will be hosting a free breakfast at their building located at 130 Wilson Avenue beginning at 8 a.m.

If you save your appetite for lunch, beginning at 10 a.m. the Timmins Aboriginal Organizations Committee will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers, and if you are so inclined, enjoy an Indian Taco too.

Please join us for an official opening ceremony hosted by our Elder at 12 p.m. sharp.

The day will be filled with several free activities for youth and adults alike including games, face painting and a traditional dancing workshop.

The Timmins High and Vocational School will be hosting an art workshop for our youth from 1-3 p.m.

The Timmins Police Equestrian Team will be arriving at the park at 11 a.m. followed by our local Emergency Services.

The City of Timmins will be graced with the wonderful voice of Charlie Angus as his guitar gently weeps at 1 p.m. followed by Conredge Solomon and his fiddle.

Several local organizations will be showcasing their services including the Canadian Diabetes Association, Métis Nation of Ontario, Timmins Public Library, Gold Corp, Debeers and many more!

Several local partners have donated items that will be raffled off, including a camping set valued at over $1000, donated by Tim Hortons.

There will be a traditional Feast with live music played by Kick ‘N Dust beginning at 5 p.m., leading into an evening of live music played by Crescendo until 9 p.m.

The city of Timmins is rich in diversity and cultural heritage.

Come and spend the day with your friends at the Hollinger Park and see how the city of Timmins can come together to celebrate the “Gathering of Nations” on National Aboriginal Day.
