The Timmins Festivals and Event Committee (TFEC) is receiving $250,000 from Ontario's Reconnect Festival and Event Program.

The cash is in support of the Rock on the River festival, according to the announcement from Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

“The Rock on the River festival makes important contributions to the Timmins community, creating local jobs and boosting the local economy,” said Fedeli in a news release.

“It’s important for our government to make this investment through the Reconnect Festival and Event Program, giving us all the opportunity to experience what Ontario has to offer right in our own backyard.”

Because of COVID-19, the last Rock on the River, a two-day music festival organized by TFEC, was held in 2019.

More details from TFEC on what the funding means are expected in the coming days.

The province launched the Reconnect Festival and Event Program in 2020. The application call-out said the funding would be used for eligible expenses such as programming and production, promotion, mobile applications and website development, and implementing health and safety measures.
