Rainy and Muddy Event a Success

Drag races were a wet, slippery, muddy success! Check them out Sunday if you didn't get the chance to see them Saturday

A two day event is going on this weekend at 705MX Park located at 5050 Kamiscotia Road in Timmins.

The event being held June 17 and 18 is Mud Fest; an event where 4-wheelers and trucks drag race in mud.

Racers from Sudbury, Timmins, and other locations were on site to show off their vehicles, and try to be the fastest time in their class.

The event started Saturday at 8 a.m. for registration; with spectator gates opened at 9 a.m. Rain assisted in ensuring that the track and spectator area were very muddy. Races ran until 6 p.m.

Sunday will have races from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Classes for the races included stock classes, women’s classes, and open classes.

Registration for vehicles ran Friday and Saturday.

Vic Charbonneau, one of the organizers of the Mud Fest event, stated that he would like to see the event take place twice a year in Timmins, and that if successful there may be another similar drag event in the fall this year.

While pets such as dogs are not allowed at the event, people of all ages are welcome to attend.
