At some point, everyone needs the emergency room. Now, it needs your help.

March 22 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., KiSS 99.3 is raising money for the department at Timmins and District Hospital with the Minutes Matter Radiothon.

Morning show host Mark Kinsman will be broadcasting live from the lobby, sharing stories from local doctors and nurses and people who have used the department.

The department is facing several issues.

Because there are limited beds, admitted patients stay in the emergency department longer.

Timmins and District Hospital Foundation acting executive director Jason Laneville said the organization is working towards a new emergency department.

In the meanwhile, however, he said they have to bridge the gap and fundraise for renovations to create better efficiency and more storage.

“Our equipment is outdated, we need some new mobile equipment carts that would allow procedures to be done bedside freeing up some space and alleviating some of the wait times, our charting software needs to be updated — so there’s definitely a need in the emergency department,” he said.

This is the fourth time KiSS is putting on the radiothon.

“Everybody needs the emergency room. The reality is the funding the hospital gets from the government runs the hospital, any funding for equipment comes from the foundation,” said Amanda Dyer, KiSS 99.3 and 92.1 Rock program director.

The goal is to raise about $15,000 throughout the day.

There are three ways to donate.

Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can call 705-264-KiSS (5477).

You can stop by in person at the hospital, where there will be a 20-minute grace period for parking.
