Students at R. Ross Beattie Public School are hosting a pop-up kitchen in Timmins on Dec. 18 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This event will take place on Third Aveenue in front of the former Tweed and Hickory.
Mme Lambert’s Grade 7 class will be serving a homemade vegetable soup and hot chocolate to members of the community. This student-led initiative will support those in need in the community while engaging students in a meaningful way. This event is part of a larger initiative involving other fundraising efforts and a food drive, both which have been incredibly successful.
The students are proud of their involvement in the community and look forward to giving back on Dec. 18.
“This Pop-up Kitchen is important because I am passionate about making a better future for our generation. I want to make a difference while I am young, so that we can be better citizens when we're older. It is important that we are aware of the needs of our community and I, (we) wanted to help out any way that we could. Hopefully, this will motivate others to step-up," said Alyssa Delich, a student at the school.
Classmate Amelia Debassige adds, "I am always looking for ways to help others. The thought of helping someone and by feeding them something warm, makes me feel good. I want to help the community by being kind and giving back. I want to see them smile."
The class secured local sponsors to support this event. We want to thank and acknowledge Hard Rock Animal Hospital, Northern Building Group, Jessica Torlone of Claimpost Realty, McKane Motors and Topper’s Pizza for their support of the events and the students’ efforts.
