The Mattagami Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) located at 551 Airport Road is undergoing a large construction project to move from a primary treatment facility to a secondary treatment plant which will include a state of the art solids handling and processing.

In order to achieve the treatment objectives set by the Ministry of Environment, several existing processes at the current facility will experience disruptions during the commissioning of new equipment. These disruptions are necessary and all efforts are being made to keep them to a minimum.

As of June 3, 2014 the City of Timmins has by-passed the existing screening and grit removal processes at the Mattagami River WPCP. This by-pass will be in effect for approximately 4 weeks. The sewage flow will be receiving primary clarification, chlorination and de-chlorination prior to its release to the Mattagami River.

The City of Timmins will take every precaution to minimize the impact on the receiving water course, the Mattagami River.

In combination with this planned by-pass, an enhanced sampling protocol has been initiated in consultation with the Ministry of the Environment. This additional sampling will continue until the bypass is no longer required. Samples will be taken at key locations along the Mattagami River and will be sent for laboratory analyses. These samples will be taken once per week during this process disruption.
