Potential COVID-19 exposure at Timmins Native Friendship Centre

People at a July 27 drumming circle should self-monitor until Aug. 10

People who attended a drumming circle last week may have been exposed to COVID-19.

The Porcupine Health Unit has issued a potential exposure advisory for people who attended a family drumming event at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre on Tuesday, July 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The exposure is low risk, according to the health unit bulletin.

People who were at the event are asked to self-monitor until Tuesday, Aug. 10. Anyone who experiences symptoms should call the health unit at 705-360-4819 or 1-800-461-1818.

Typical COVID-19 symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • New or worsening cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Sore throat or hoarse voice 
  • Difficulty swallowing 
  • Runny nose or nasal congestion
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

Atypical symptoms are:

  • Unexplained fatigue or malaise
  • Muscle aches
  • Delirium
  • Unexplained or increased number of falls
  • Acute functional decline
  • Exacerbation of current chronic conditions
  • Chills
  • Headaches 
  • Croup
  • Conjunctivitis

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
