Another summer season of fun-filled activities has launched Downtown Timmins.

The Urban Park is taking over Third Avenue from Pine to Balsam every Wednesday and Thursday.

Downtown Timmins is the heart and soul of small business, says Downtown Timmins BIA executive director Cindy Campbell.

"When we have these events we bring so many people downtown so they can see what is downtown, what’s possible downtown and they can enjoy downtown," she says.

"We have to support local, we have to support those that are giving back to the community in the form of donations to charities, sponsoring hockey teams, sponsoring sports teams. The people in the downtown are the business people that are doing that and we have to help them be healthy, especially after COVID."

Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there are crafts and games, diet-friendly snacks for kids and not-for-profits set up. There's also a theme for each week, with superheroes kicking off the season today (July 6).

"There will be a lot to do and we’ll also at the other end of the street have our patio tables set up so people can just come downtown and relax,” she said.

The Farmers' Market is rung in by a local celebrity at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.

“We really encourage people to come out early to make sure they get what they want. There’s everything from fresh produce and meat products to we also have some very talented crafters and we also have people selling prepared food this year,” she said.

For the market's launch on July 7, the vendors and their specials are:

  • Black River Country Gardens - Strawberries, tomatoes, garlic and lettuce
  • La Cubana - Pulled pork and rice with beans
  • Chile - Empanadas de dulce de leche
  • Glorious Goods - Handmade jewelry and plants
  • Fresh and Fancy Bakery - Bread and desserts

  • Acres of Dreams - Meat, eggs, produce and meat box deals
  • La Vache a Maillotte - Cheese
