While the rest of Ontario entered the first stage of the Roadmap to Reopen last week, the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) region remains under enhanced COVID-19 restrictions.

The emergency brake restrictions that limit things such as gathering sizes, in-person shopping and dining at restaurants are in place until at least June 24.

PHU medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says the measures are to limit the interaction between people to contain the spread.

Earlier this week, she said there are some positive trends in the region and those trends need to be sustained before moving forward with reopening.

Because we're the only region in Ontario that hasn't entered the roadmap, we wanted to know — do you agree with extending the COVID-19 restrictions in the Porcupine Health Unit region?

The votes were close, with the majority of poll respondents being in favour of the enhanced restrictions.

The breakdown is:

  • 516 people (51 per cent) voted yes
  • 466 people (45 per cent) voted no
  • 32 poeple (3 per cent) had no opinion

A total of 1,014 people responded. This poll had a 5.88 per cent margin of error, 19 times out of 20.
