Police say no one hurt in Porcupine Lake incident

Timmins Police officers responded to a call for service involving a distressed person on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19) near the waterfront of Porcupine Lake in South Porcupine.

Once on scene, officers located a 43-year-old female person in distress and acting in a threatening and irrational manner.

The person is alleged to have made repeated references to being in possession of a weapon and displayed intentions to commit self-harm.

Relying on their training and experience, Timmins Police officers were able to calmly apprehend the distressed person without incident or injury to themselves or the distressed person.

Adherence to proper procedures and the application of good judgement and sensitivity to persons in crisis led to an apprehension that quelled the situation promptly.

The area was under strict police control restricting public access for a brief period of time.

The distressed person was brought to Timmins and District Hospital for further assessment by medical professionals.
