Timmins Police are reminding residents about increased reports of lynx in the area entering city limits as they search for alternate sources of food.

Timmins Police are reminding residents about increased reports of lynx in the area entering city limits as they search for alternate sources of food.

During the afternoon of March 3, police received reports from several residents about a lynx in a highly residential area in the North end of the city. The lynx was travelling through back yards, was in very close proximity to an elementary school, and had no apparent fear of humans. Due to the public safety issues relating to this lynx, unfortunately police had no alternative options but to dispatch the animal.

Once again, the Timmins Police Service wishes to advise the public to remove all birdfeeders, do not place food outdoors and keep pets on a short leash. Residents should also be mindful that wild animals can be unpredictable, especially when they are searching for food in highly populated areas.
