Police lay charges after being provided false name

Further investigation by police revealed the true identity of the individual and he was bound by a recognizance of bail with several conditions which were allegedly being breached

On Aug. 22, 2017, at approximately 7:50 p.m., police received a call regarding a suspicious person in the downtown area. Officers arrived on scene and located the individual in question.

Upon speaking to the individual, officers were provided a false name. Further investigation by police revealed the true identity of the individual. Investigation also revealed that he was bound by a recognizance of bail with several conditions which were allegedly being breached.

He was also bound by a probation order with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The individual was placed under arrest and transported to the Timmins Police Service.

While conducting a routine search, police located a quantity of controlled substances in the possession of the accused. As a result of this incident, Tristan Stephen, 20 of North Bay, faces charges including identity fraud, possession of a schedule I substance, breach of recognizance (x3), and breach of probation (x2).

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing set for today, Aug. 23, 2017.
