The Timmins Police Service is in the midst of investigating a number of recent events reported to them under the classification of “attempted abductions”.

These matters remain under investigation by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division. At present, the Timmins Police Service can confirm that there are no missing persons stemming from any of these incidents.

While these matters are serious in nature and thoroughly investigated as credible in the initial phases of investigation, none of these incidents have resulted in any outcomes of legitimate substance in terms of:

• missing persons

• complaints of injury to anyone allegedly involved

These events have spurred a number of posts on social media platforms, such as Facebook, which allow for the free flowing dissemination of any sort of opinion, not fact.

Additionally, a number of highly spurious posts generate unnecessary anxiety within the community while legitimate foundation is noticeably absent. Residents are urged to use good judgment and a healthy amount of discretion when receiving information about alleged criminal activity from unofficial sources.

That said, the Timmins Police Service continues to deploy appropriate resources in regards to these matters, including, but not limited to, a thorough review of video surveillance material in the affected areas, and an increased police presence as part of their general patrols.
