Police investigating fatal crash on Highway 11

Police urge people to avoid unnecessary travel

Matheson OPP are investigating a fatal collision on Highway 11 in Benoit Township.

Police say the multi-vehicle crash happened today (Feb. 27) around 10:15 a.m. One person was killed. 

According to OPP, the crash is under investigation and more information will be released as it's available. 

"The OPP Technical Collision Investigators have been deployed and are assisting in the investigation. Highway 11 is expected to be closed for several hours as a result of the collision. There is no detour," reads the news release. 

With the deteriorating driving conditions, police are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel. 

A snowfall warning is currently in effect for the area, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected. 

Several roads in the region are closed due to weather, including Highway 11 from New Liskeard to Cochrane, and Highway 101 from Timmins to the Quebec border.
