The Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section is cautiously encouraged by the recent results of Festive RIDE campaign efforts locally.

Festive RIDE spot checks were set up at various locations throughout the city yesterday evening.

Over 300 drivers were checked for sobriety and only one driver was required to provide a breath sample into an approved screening device. The results of that test required no further action by the Timmins Police Service.

A number of warnings along with three offence notices for Highway Traffic Act violations were issued.

The Timmins Police Service reminds all motorists that making a plan that includes a way home without taking to the wheel after having consumed alcohol is a solid investment in public and personal safety.

The Timmins Police officers who were conducting RIDE spot checks were the unexpected recipients of hot coffee given to them by a citizen who wished to convey his appreciation for their efforts.

Another group of young adults, who wished to thank the Timmins Police officers for their RIDE efforts in the cold, brought the officers prepared pastries.

The Timmins Police is unwilling to confirm that these pastries were in fact donuts. Nonetheless, these gestures of good will were unnecessary but certainly appreciated
