Police arrest two suspects allegedly attempting to break into parked vehicles

The Timmins Police Service has charged a two local men with theft-related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning in the Mountjoy section of Timmins.

A trio of suspects was observed venturing onto various residential driveways attempting to gain entry into parked vehicles. Responding Timmins Police Service officers apprehended two of the three men who fled on foot once the police presence was noticed. After brief search of the area and foot pursuits, the men were taken into custody.

One of the men actively resisted the arrest but was eventually controlled. A knife was located on his person in keeping with a search incident to his arrest. The third suspect was not located.

As a result of the incident, Timothy Rickard, 23, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Trespass by night contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The second suspect, Scott Nakogee, 25, of Timmins has been charged with a single charge of trespass by night contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was released from custody on the strength of a promise to appear compelling him to attend Provincial Court on Jan. 14, 2020 to answer to the charge laid against him.
