Pasta Lunch at Timmins Centennial Public School Raises $2400 for TADH Pediatric Dept

Timmins – Representatives from the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation attended Timmins Centennial Public School Wednesday, February 12, 2014 to receive a $2,400 cheque.

Timmins –  Representatives from the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation attended Timmins Centennial Public School Wednesday, February 12, 2014 to receive a $2,400 cheque. The money comes from a Pasta Lunch Fundraiser held on Monday, February 10, 2014 during the school’s “Let’s Make a Difference” campaign. This event was sponsored by Goldcorp, Toffanello’s Fresh Pasta and Dare Food Products with all proceeds going to the Timmins and District Hospital Pediatric Department for much-needed equipment.

Presenting the $2,400 cheque on behalf of Timmins Centennial Public School were students Giulio Lodovici and Jacob Bucar, along with parent Vicki Lodovici and Melanie Bucar – both on the school’s nutrition committee. Accepting the donation on behalf of the Foundation was Janna Cook, TADH Foundation Executive Director.

“February is Heart Month and Timmins Centennial Public School took the opportunity to fundraise for the Pediatric Department at the Timmins and District Hospital,” stated Lee-Ann Wearing, School Principal. “Currently, in our school, we have a student who has Heart Disease (Tetralogy of Fallot) and will continue through life needing the care from many doctors and hospitals like the Timmins and District Hospital,” added Wearing.

“With many donations through the years, the Timmins and District Hospital was able to purchase a neonatal cardiac monitor to detect defects which now can be repaired before a child is born,” said Vicky Lodovici, parent volunteer. “If this was available prior to my son Giulio being born, it may or may not have changed the outcome, but the opportunity would have been nice,” added Lodovici.

“Timmins Centennial has many students with medical conditions,” stated Melanie Bucar, parent volunteer. “That is why we chose to fundraise for the Timmins and District Hospital because, not only do they provide care for Giulio and Jacob, they also provide care for many of the other students in our school,” added Bucar.

When asked why they raised the money, eight-year old Giulio Lodovici replied “For the kids,” to which he added “To help them.” One six-year old student was asked what he liked most about the event. “I liked making the pasta lunch,” answered Jacob Bucar. “And I liked eating it too,” added Bucar.

“On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to thank everybody at Timmins Centennial Public School for your hard work and dedication to this initiative,” stated Janna Cook, TADH Foundation Executive Director. “Timmins and District Hospital Foundation is currently in one of its largest campaigns in order to renovate several departments, including pediatrics, and it is inspiring to see children, parents and teachers come together to help their hospital and other children in their community,“ added Cook.
