Overturned truck in Cochrane now safely resolved

COCHRANE - The overturned truck in Cochrane carrying sulphur dioxide, is completely off loaded and removed from the site without incident.

As of 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, the accident scene on Concession 2 and 3 in Cochrane has been completely resolved.

The product has been off loaded and removed from the site, while the truck is being towed away.

The road is now reopened and the incident is over.

Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis (pictured) had this to say: “This could have been a disastrous situation but the emergency control team did a remarkable job in managing the circumstances. My sincere thanks to everyone involved for making sure this incident remained under control. Cochrane has been trying to secure funding to upgrade this by-pass route so we can safely reroute hazardous materials away from our drinking water, but unfortunately the province has denied this request repeatedly. My hope is this incident actually turns into a positive impact in the future by demonstrating to the province that we need their help and this is a real public safety issue.”
