OPP issue public safety alert after Kirkland Lake methadone theft

KIRKLAND LAKE - The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking for the public's assistance in regards to a break and enter that occurred at the methadone clinic on Second Street in Kirkland Lake. The incident occurred sometime between June 21 at 10 p.m. and June 22 at  9 a.m. Once inside, the culprit(s) took an unspecified quantity of methadone.

Methadone is a synthetic opioid used to treat addiction. The OPP reminds the public the severity of taken methadone and/or any illegal prescription medication. These controlled substances are extremely dangerous when not administered by medical professionals.  

The Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA) prohibits anyone from possessing any prescribed medication without a prescription. It is a criminal offence to offer or sell a prescribed medication to another person. Purchasing another person's prescribed drugs is also illegal.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
