COCHRANE – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) James Bay Detachment Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) Detective Staff Sergeant Rob Lake, working in conjunction with the Centre of Forensic Sciences, Northeast Region Coroner’s Office and the Ministry of Labour are conducting an investigation into the workplace death of Denis MILLETTE, 52, at the Detour Gold Mine.

On June 3, 2015, a millwright at the Detour Gold Mine was making a repair to equipment within the mine. 

During this time, the worker was observed to be in medical distress and was attended to by on-site medical staff, however later died.

The OPP is working closely with the Centre of Forensic Sciences and the Ministry of Labour to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the worker.
