OPP Apprehend Fleeing Suspects ... or You Know You Had a Bad Day When....

Members of the Englehart Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint on October 4, 2013 at approximately 2:23 a.m. on Aidie Creek Garden Road.

Members of the Englehart Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint on October 4, 2013 at approximately 2:23 a.m. on Aidie Creek Garden Road.

Police observed a suspicious vehicle come to a stop on the shoulder of Aidie Creek Garden Road.  Police activated emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The suspect put the vehicle in motion and began to flee from police heading towards Highway 11.

Members of the Kirkland Lake OPP met at the Highway 11 and Highway 66 junction where spike belts were successfully deployed.   The suspect vehicle continued to attempt to flee colliding with police vehicles in the process but came to a stop within a short distance.

Driver, Matthew ROCHON 24 years of Chamberlain Township was arrested and is charged with

  • Theft Under 5000 – section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Flight While Persued by Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance Cannabis Marihuana
  • Race motor vehicle
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle
  • Operate vehicle without insurance

There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

The accused will appear in Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on November 12, 2013.
