Hundreds of people caught a different view of the city for the opening of the Hollinger Open Pit Lookout.
The observation area on top of the environmental berm near downtown Timmins opened to the public yesterday.
It's open until Sunday, Oct. 27 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Newmont Goldcorp Porcupine communications and CST coordinator Pierre Noel said more than 700 people took took advantage of it on the first day.
"With a nicer forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow we're expecting it to be busy through to Sunday night," he said.
The lookout gives people a peek into an active open pit mine. It is open for a limited time this week, and will re-open to the public in the spring.
It's located on top of the environmental control berm and can be accessed off Brunette Road, where the entrance to the Shania Twain Centre was south of Hollinger Park.
At the entrance, security is recording the number of people attending, and asking visitors to choose who they'd like to see Newmont Goldcorp give a $5,000 donation to.
So far, the lookout has been a popular spot for selfies and photos. Be sure to use #hollingerpit if you are sharing a pic on social media.
The Timmins Chamber of Commerce even took a video tour.
