Ontario reports 328 new COVID cases Tuesday

The latest updates noted 498 recoveries and four new deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 328 new COVID cases today. 

The latest updates noted 498 recoveries and four new deaths that occurred in the last month. 

The Oct. 19 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 3,672 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 3,846 yesterday. 
  • 260 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • There are 130 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 29 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 81 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 21 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 10,852,509 Ontarians (about 73 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • Among the new cases reported today were 177 unvaccinated people (including under 12 years old), 16 partially vaccinated people, and 105 fully vaccinated people. 30 cases were listed with the vaccination status unknown. 
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 6.6 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.6 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.3 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • There are 74 unvaccinated, four partially vaccinated, and 26 fully vaccinated individuals in the ICU with COVID-19. 
  • There are 102 unvaccinated, 10 partially vaccinated, and 35 fully vaccinated individuals hospitalized but not in the ICU with COVID-19.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 6.7 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.6 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.3 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 20,792 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.5 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 52 are from Toronto, 60 are from Peel, 13 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 20 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 76 individuals under 12 years old, 26 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 106 people between 20 and 39 years old, 81 people between 40 and 59 years old, 36 people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 595,563 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 582,072 recoveries and 9,819 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,344 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,938 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,042.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 20.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 21.5 per cent compared to the week of Oct. 9.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 483 cases, weekly rate of 4.2 cases per 100,000 people. There are 6 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 793 cases, weekly rate of 4.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 795 cases. There are 9 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,214 cases, weekly rate of 4.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,216 cases. There are 3 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,541 cases, weekly rate of 15.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,579 cases. There are 72 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 236 cases, weekly rate of 11.8 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 239 cases. There are 6 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,190 cases, weekly rate of 4.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,189 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 81per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,400 cases, weekly rate of 1.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,399 cases. There are 2 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
