Ontario reports 318 new COVID cases Sunday

Today's update also includes 504 recoveries and 12 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 318 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 20).

Today's update also includes 504 new recoveries and 12 deaths. 

The June 20 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 3,673 active cases, down from 3,871 yesterday.
  • 266 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 336 yesterday.
  • There are 333 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 335 yesterday) and 208 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 196  reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 21,063 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Another 6,150 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 15.7 million tests have been completed.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 142,113 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 1,154 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 4,230 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
  • 751 cases of B.1.617.2 (also known as the Delta variant).
  • Another 35,119 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet detected.
  • According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Vaccines

  • There were 184,251 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, down from 213,236 on June 19.
  • 12,551,150 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 2,874,280 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 542,198 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 529,506 recoveries and 9,019 deaths, 3,966 of those in long-term care homes.
