Ontario reports 270 new COVID cases Monday

This is the seventh consecutive daily report with fewer than 400 new cases

Public Health Ontario has reported 270 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 21).

This is the seventh consecutive day the province has reported fewer than 400 new cases, and the second time this month the daily case report has been below 300. 

Today's update also includes 486 new recoveries and three deaths. 

The deaths reported today include one person between 40 and 59 years old, one person between 60 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday's update, there have been 27 new hospitalizations, and six more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 21 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 3,454 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 3,673 yesterday.
  • 261 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 266 yesterday.
  • There are 323 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (55 of those people no longer test positive for COVID-19) and 202 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 208 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 13,828 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.5 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 4,589 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.7 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 47 are from Toronto, 42 cases are from Peel, 22 are from York Region, and 11 are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 62 individuals aged 19 and under, 108 people between 20 and 39 years old, 67 people between 40 and 59 years old, 26 people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 118,625 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, down from 184,251 doses administered on June 19.
  • 12,669,775 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 2,972,700 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 542,468 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 529,992 recoveries and 9,022 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,649.4 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 18.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 24.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 399 cases, weekly rate of  0.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 398 cases. There are four known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 528 cases, weekly rate of 30.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 532  cases. There are 53 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,972 cases, weekly rate of 220.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,964 cases. There are 271 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,123 cases, weekly rate of 8.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,142 cases. There are 29 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 207 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 208. There are no known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,079 cases, weekly rate of 6.8 cases per 100,000 people. There are 12 known active cases, including one active case outside of the catchment area.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,331 cases, weekly rate of 10.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are 29 known active cases. 

The data from Northern Ontario health units is based on what was available at 10:30 a.m. today.
