District School Board Ontario North East has been analyzing the potential impact of recent funding announcements and the latest provincial budget on its operations. The Board of Trustees reviewed the figures at their April 16 meeting. DSB1 estimates that it will see a reduction of $4 million for the 2019-2020 school year related to programming and staffing.

One of the most impactful change for the board is funding for secondary staffing.

“We will continue to work diligently to support a positive future story for every student. We are entering challenging times but remain committed to offering innovative learning opportunities for all students” said Board Chair Bob Brush.

The provincial government delivered its budget on April 11, 2019. Further announcements on the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) are expected to be released by the end of April.

“Once we receive the GSNs, we will have a better sense of where we stand for the upcoming school year," commented Director of Education Lesleigh Dye. “We look forward to receiving that information from the Ministry to inform our planning for the 2019-2020 school year.”

DSB1 Trustees will receive the 2019-2020 budget at a special board meeting on June 25.
