Officer, civilian jump into frigid water to save Temiskaming boy

CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES - On Nov. 10, 2018 at approximately 7:30 a.m. a member of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call involving a 17-year-old boy in crisis.

The officer located the 17-year-old boy standing on the bridge. While the officer was talking to the boy he ended up (in) the cold water and swift current of the Wabi River in Temiskaming Shores, Ont. The officer and a nearby civilian jumped into the water and rescued the boy from the frigid water.

Neither the officer, the civilian, nor the boy sustained any injuries.

The youth was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital.
