Northern Ontario Provincial Police Digest

(MATHESON) – The Matheson Ontario Provincial Police is in the midst of completing its investigation into a tractor trailer fire that occurred on September 7 th on Hwy 11 in Playfair Twp. just north of Ramore.

(MATHESON) – The Matheson Ontario Provincial Police is in the midst of completing its investigation into a tractor trailer fire that occurred on September 7th on Hwy 11 in Playfair Twp. just north of Ramore.

The OPP officers responded to the scene and located a 2003 Kenworth tractor trailer unit engulfed in flames.

The truck had been driven by a 46 year old male Mattawa man who was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for medical treatment as a precautionary measure.

The truck was loaded with frozen food so environmental concerns were low.

Fire and ambulance crews from Matheson and Ramore attended the scene.

The highway was closed for approximately one hour due to the fire.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going at this time.

 

 

(IROQUOIS FALLS) – The Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a two vehicle collision which occurred on Ambridge Drive in the town of Iroquois Falls yesterday afternoon.

OPP responded to the scene of the collision to find significant damage to a 2011 Dodge Caravan passenger vehicle and a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Neither driver sustained injury.

As a result of the investigation, a 78 year old male driver from Iroquois Falls has been charged with Start from Parked Position – Not in Safety contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Later that same afternoon, the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision which occurred on Hwy 101 in Garrison Twp. near the Quebec border.

OPP responded to the scene of the collision to find a pickup truck that had rolled a number of times and came to rest in the south ditch of Hwy 101.

The driver had sustained non-life threatening injury and was transported to an area hospital by ambulance.

As a result of the investigation, a 40 year old male driver has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The OPP reminds all motorists that distracted driving remains a causal factor in a high number of preventable collisions.  Quite often, one of these incidents being no exception, the result is injury requiring medical treatment.

As well, research tends to indicate that all forms of distracted driving remains a causal factor in 30 to 50 percent of traffic fatalities.
