MALE CHARGED FOLLOWING RECOVERY OF STOLEN VEHICLE 

(COCHRANE, ON) –On January 7, 2014, shortly after 9:00 pm, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Cochrane detachment intercepted a stolen red Ford Focus passenger vehicle traveling westbound on highway 11 in the town Cochrane, Ontario.

Police investigation revealed that the accused male and stolen vehicle were traveling back from the province of Quebec and heading to the Departure Lake area prior to the traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, 38 year old male, Yves ROCHELEAU of Departure Lake, Ontario, has been charged with one count of Theft Under $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle and one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused male has since been release from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on February 4, 2014.

 

CASH, DRUGS AND VEHICLE SEIZED DURING OPP R.I.D.E. PROGRAM 

(COCHRANE, ON) –Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers from the Cochrane detachment have laid several drug and property related charges against a Quebec male and female on January 12, 2014.

A comprehensive investigation led by the OPP during a R.I.D.E. program initiative conducted on highway 11 west of Cochrane resulted in the arrest and subsequent search of two occupants of a Chrysler minivan. During the search of the vehicle, OPP officers discovered concealed bags containing over $40,000 in Canadian currency, 30 grams of Cocaine, 10 grams of Cannabis Marihuana and 700 Methamphetamine pills (Speed) with an estimated street value of approximately $10,000.

Edgar PITRE, aged 66 of Matagamie, Quebec and Nathalie FORGET, aged 47 of Montreal, Quebec, have both been charged with one count of Possession of a schedule II substance-Cannabis Marihuana, one count of Possession of a schedule I substance-Cocaine and one count of Trafficking of schedule I substance-Methamphetamine, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA). They have also been charged with two counts each of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

As a result of the investigation, the involved vehicle was seized as offence related property and remains in police custody.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 13, 2014, but have since been released. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on February 25, 2014.

 

MALE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL OFFENCES (Bruce Mines, ON) –On January 8, 2014 members of the East Algoma Thessalon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a reported sexual assault which occurred in the Town of Bruce Mines between the October 1, 2013 and December 16, 2013.

As a result of the investigation the OPP has arrested and charged a 32 year old male from Bruce Mines with the following • two counts of sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age • two counts of sexual exploitation • two counts of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age

The male is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie on January 14, 2014.  The OPP will not be releasing the name in order to protect the identity of the victim.
