PORCUPINE OPP CHARGE DRIVER FOR EXCESSIVE SPEED

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – A Kapuskasing man has been charged with a Street Racing offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act stemming from an event on October 28th.

On October 28th, an Ontario Provincial Police officer had occasion to observe a 1993 Mercury passenger vehicle allegedly travelling at a speed of 137 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Hwy 144 in McKeown Twp. (south of Timmins).

The driver, a 84 yr old man from Kapuskasing, Ontario, has been charged and served with a Summons requiring him to attend Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.

Additionally, the vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 7 days.

The South Porcupine OPP reminds motorcycle enthusiasts that the obligations to be safe and responsible while behind the wheel rests squarely on the shoulders of the individual driver.

Those motorists who insist on driving at high rates of speed can rightfully expect a prompt and strict response from OPP officers who diligently patrol area roadways.

 

IROQUOIS FALLS OPP CHARGE SUSPENDED DRIVER

(IROQUOIS FALLS) – The Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Timmins area woman with a driving offence stemming from a routine traffic stop on Municipal Road near Iroquois Falls on October 28th.

The OPP officer had occasion to observe that a Chevrolet Equinox SUV partially obstructing traffic.

Based on the routine investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, it was determined that an Ontario driver’s licence suspension is in effect in the driver’s name.

As a result, Shelley MACCORMACK, 48, of Barber’s Bay, has been charged with Driving Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver was served with summonses requiring her to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on December 12th to answer to the charges laid against her.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

MULTI-AGENCY ROADSIDE SAFETY INITIATIVE RESULTS

(COCHRANE, ON) – On October 17 and 18, 2013, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in a Multi-Agency Roadside Safety Initiative on Hwy 11 South in St. John's Township, south of Cochrane.

The initiative’s main focus was to influence driving behaviour through enforcement of the “big four” factors including, the lack of occupant restraint (seatbelts), aggressive driving, impaired driving and distracted driving, which contribute to a large portion of deaths and injuries on Ontario highways every year.

During the initiative, the OPP, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Finance exercised their combined fields of expertise to educated motorists, safeguard the public from drivers who were abusing their privileges and enforce the numerous Provincial and Federal statutes.

The two day successful roadside initiative resulted in 12,240 vehicles checked and generated a total of 32 charges laid cumulatively between the participating enforcement agencies.

 

ATV TOWED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – A member of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped an ATV with no licence plate on Kerr Lake Road on October 24, 2013 at 3:22 p.m.

Following investigation the 29-year-old driver faces charges.

Steven EDEN of Haileybury is charged with Drive While Disqualified and Drive while under suspension

The ATV was towed and secured for a 45 day impoundment.

Accused will appear in Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on December 10, 2013.

 

OPP NORTH EAST REGION AWARDS CEREMONY

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON) – On October 24, 2013 members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the North East Region Award Ceremony held in Warren.

Commissioner Chris LEWIS and Chief Superintendent Joffre DUPUIS were in attendance and presented the Awards.
