RECOVERY OF STOLEN PROPERTY

(NORTH BAY, ON) – Over the past few months Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Almaguin Highlands OPP have responded to several reported thefts of all-terrain vehicles (ATV’s) and snow machines.  As a result of joint efforts by the Huntsville OPP Crime Unit, Almaguin Highlands OPP, North Bay OPP, North East Regional Forensic Identification Section, Canine Unit and Crime Unit members, charges have been laid and a quantity of stolen property have been recovered including; three All-Terrain Vehicles, two snow machines and one utility trailer.

James RYE, age 47 of Huntsville has been charged with the following:

·         Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5,000

·         Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

·         Theft Under $5,000

·         Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Cocaine

·         Possession of a Schedule II Substance-Marihuana under 30 grams

·         Possession Break In Instruments

·         Driving While Ability Impaired

·         Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance

·         Drive Motor Vehicle, No Validation on Plate

James COOK, age 33 of Trout Creek has been charged with the following:

·         Possession of Property obtained by crime over $5,000 (x2)

·         Possession of Property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x3)

·         Fail to Comply with Recognizance (x2)

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.

DRUG CHARGES LAID IN CHAPLEAU

(CHAPLEAU, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau Drug Enforcement Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with members of the Ontario Provincial Police Chapleau detachment have charged a man and woman with drug offences. The charges stem from the investigation of illegal drug related activities in the Chapleau area. It culminated with the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Connaught Street in Chapleau.

Seized as a result of the search were marihuana, Oxycodone, money and drug paraphernalia.  The estimated street value of the drugs seized is approximately $2450.  The incident occurred at approximately 3:05 pm on March 7, 2014.

Charged is Calvin LECUYER Jr. age 26 of Chapleau with two counts Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Production of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.  He was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing in Timmins, Ontario.

Also charged is Lindsay SIMPSON age 31 of Chapleau with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Production of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.  She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chapleau on April 16, 2014.

TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER CHARGED WITH CARELESS DRIVING 

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On March 20, 2014 at approximately 3:35 p.m. members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a charter bus. The collision occurred on Highway 69 south of Pickerel River Road in Mowat Township. Investigation revealed the tractor trailer was travelling southbound and crossed the center line striking the northbound bus. The bus was loaded with passengers from Sudbury. Minor injuries resulted to both drivers.

Driver of the tractor trailer, James LOUCKS, 57 years of age from Owen Sound, was charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A Careless Driving charge under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act is described as a person who drives a vehicle without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for others using the highway. This charge carries a payable fine of $490 and 6 demerit points on a first offence.

 

VEHICLE THEFT RESULTS IN CHARGES 

(CITY OF TEMISKAMING SHORES, ON)  Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a vehicle theft on March 20, 2014 from a residence on Agnes Street in New Liskeard.

A 51-year-old man later returned to the residence and would not respond when summoned by police.  As a result, members of the Temiskaming OPP requested assistance from the Temiskaming Crime Unit, and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).

On March 22, 2014 at approximately 7:15 a.m. Kenneth REESE was placed in custody and is charged for Theft of Motor Vehicle – Section 334(a) of the Criminal Code, Possession of Property Over 5,000 – section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and Possession of Cannabis Marihuana – section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Accused will be held for bail at Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on March 24, 2014.
