It is with great pride that Northern College announces that they have been internationally recognized by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnic Awards.

The College’s Virtual Reality in Education program was awarded silver in the Access to Learning and Employment category at the World Congress of Colleges in Melbourne, Australia, one of seven categories that reflect the mission and values of the World Federation and its contributing bodies.

The awards seek to distinguish WFCP member institutions that are strengthening applied learning and research outcomes. Both Northern College and the WFCP feel that Virtual Reality will play a significant role in the future delivery of education.

While existing technologies are far from perfect, Northern College has created a unique avenue for educators to move outside of the classroom and into the limitless potential of the digital realm. Allowing the college to engage learners with information, knowledge and skills that will undoubtedly help students gain a broader understanding and appreciation for the world at large, from the safety of the classroom.

“To receive international recognition from our peer colleges and institutions for the pioneering work we are doing in using virtual reality to create learning resources in some of our programs is a real honour,” stated Northern College President, Dr. Fred Gibbons.

An honour that the College will use as affirmation of this unique direction, shoring up long standing goals to further develop its virtual reality expertise and capabilities. The next phase for this now award winning project is to create the world’s first ‘virtual’ school, allowing for even more unique learning options being offered by Northern College’s digital campus.

“This award is a team effort, we have innovative faculty, a dynamic contract training division and a supportive management team to assure an increase in access for learners.  Leading in this environment is incredible.” Says Dr. Audrey J Penner, vice president academic and student success at Northern College.

Northern College remains committed to offering students cutting edge learning environments to ensure the highest quality education both technically possible and technically plausible.
