NORTHERN COLLEGE

TIMMINS, ON: Northern College will be hosting a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) conference on Thursday, October 20th and Friday, October 21st, 2016. This two-day conference, held at the Timmins Campus, will provide participants with a better understanding of educational demands, provincial directives and economic drivers that impact college programming.

The conference is designed for Program Advisory Committee members but also represents an excellent opportunity for community members who want to gain a better insight into the changing dynamics of post-secondary education or may be interested in becoming a Program Advisory Committee member in the future.

“Attending the conference will help participants understand how being involved as an advisory committee member contributes to the development of our programs,” said Dr. Audrey Penner, Vice-President, Academic and Student Success of Northern College. “Our Program Advisory Committees are very active and invested in Northern College and we want to provide the most current information to help reap the rewards of that investment, for both our committee members and our programs.”

Northern College is fortunate to have access to the expertise of its Program Advisory Committee members. These volunteers provide a critical link between the College and the community ensuring that programs at Northern College are practical, responsive, innovative and effective. Members of these committees are experts in their fields – practitioners, managers and graduates of each program area – and they offer insights and advice to help create and modify our college programs. This, in turn, allows Northern’s students to graduate job-ready.

A strong lineup of speakers includes Thursday evening keynote speaker Sheldon Levy, Deputy Minister of Advanced Education & Skills Development, who will talk about the “uberization” of post-secondary education and Friday morning keynote speaker Linda Franklin, President and CEO, Colleges Ontario, who will address the changing landscape of post-secondary education. A number of panel discussions on key drivers and collaborative efforts in higher education will also take place.

The conference is free to all participants but registration is required by Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. To view the itinerary and register online, visit northernc.on.ca/pac2016
