Why did the chicken cross the road?

The Timmins and District Humane Society is closer to finding out the answer.

This week, a chicken was found at Metro on Algonquin Boulevard and brought to the Hard Rock Animal Hospital.

“Allegedly, the chicken was first spotted in the Wendy’s parking lot, so in theory, she would have needed to cross the road to get to the other side (Metro),” wrote Alicia Santamaria, Timmins and District Humane Society manager.

After a visit at the vet’s office, the hen was taken out to the Timmins and District Humane Society shelter by an animal control officer. Santamaria said she was admitted, assessed and given a comfortable spot with food, water and treats.

The chicken is doing great, and even laid her first egg at the TDHS this morning.

“We’ve read that when hens lay eggs, it’s a good sign that they’re content and happy. We’re pleased that she’s enjoying her time with us; we’re happy to have her, too,” said Santamaria.

According to the City of Timmins bylaw, the owner of a stray animal has three business days to claim them.

“If an owner does not come forth, as with any other animal to enter TDHS’s care, we’ll go on to find this beautiful gal the special home she requires to live out the rest of her life happily,” she said.

There are currently 79 animals — 68 cats, eight dogs, two bunnies and one chicken — at the TDHS. To view the animals up for adoption, visit timminshumanesociety.ca.
