A legal pot shop for Timmins is still in the works, but the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) can't give a date for when that could happen.

In August, the AGCO cannabis retail store lottery was held.

The Timmins store at the top of that list, CC Alliance, has withdrawn its application, and the next elgibile applicant was disqualified.

The store now able to submit an application to the AGCO is a numbered company — 2708227 Ontario Inc. — located at 685 River Park Rd.

AGCO communications director Phil Serruya said in an email that being selected is only the first step.

"It does not mean they have received a licence. It simply gives the applicant an opportunity to apply for a licence. The AGCO will only license applicants who meet all legal and regulatory requirements," he wrote.

"Unfortunately, I cannot give you a precise date as to when a store in Timmins could be up and running. Once the applicant has submitted their operator licence and store authorization applications, along with all required supporting documentation, the AGCO will be able to begin its comprehensive eligibility assessment, which includes police and background checks."

In July, Ontario announced it would be licensing 50 new retail stores to sell legal marijuana.

Of those, 42 are being selected by the lottery and eight are for stores on First Nations reserves.

In the north region, in addition to Timmins there are stores slated for Kenora, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay.
