New program celebrates Hospital Heroes (4 photos)

Patients can honour staff members or doctors

They may not be getting capes, but local Hospital Heroes will be easily identifiable.

The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation has launched its new Hospital Heroes program.

For it, patients or their families can honour a hospital employee or physician who's gone above and beyond by making a donation to the foundation. The person being recognized will receive a commemorative pin to wear and a personalized thank you note.

The person being honoured can be anyone from a nurse or doctor to security, dietary aide and more.

Honorary life member of the foundation Gabriel Provost saw a similar program at the heart institute in Ottawa and has been working for years have it locally.

He was on hand today to hand out the first official commemorative pins to a couple of his heroes — Dr. Yves Raymond and emergency department manager Kim Bazinet. Earlier this month, he bought a total of 20 pins to hand out.

“On a day-to-day basis, our staff, our physicians are our heroes. They’re providing that frontline care and really taking care of our friends, our family and making a difference for our hospital,” said Kate Fyfe, Timmins and District Hospital president and CEO.

To participate in the program, people honouring a staff member can make a donation of any value to the foundation. Donations can be made online at tadhfoundation.com or by calling 705-360-6039.

The money raised through the program will be used for high-priority needs at the hospital.
