A new online trend, ‘Neknomination’, has prompted the Timmins Police Service to issue a warning regarding the dangers of binge drinking.

The game sees individuals challenge others to various stunts, and has quickly evolved into individuals placing themselves in dangerous situations, namely drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. The game has become popular among teenagers around the world and has resulted in the injury and death of some participants. Police have received reports of the ‘Neknomination’ game occurring among Timmins students, and are reminding residents that drinking excessive amounts of alcohol is extremely dangerous

Neknominate is often portrayed as having begun in Australia. Whilst it is true that the social media aspects of the game evolved in Australia, the main principles, mainly the drinking and nominating someone to drink in an absurd manner whilst being recorded, were developed in the UK.

Social media site Facebook has sites where one would think promotes this crazy craze but people seem to express the same that a sane person would think. https://www.facebook.com/NeknominateVideos
