April 1, 2014, the NDP walked out of the Ontario legislature protesting the unaccountability of the current Liberal government. A reaction to the fact that on the first day back to work for the legislature after the latest allegations of scandalous behaviour associated to the gas plant boondoggle, Premier Wynne was a no show.
My first reaction was that this must be an April Fool’s joke as it was the NDP who have kept this very same unelected Premier and scandalous government in power, not once but two years in a row. However, it’s apparent this was no April Fool’s joke!
In each case it was the NDP who held the ability to stand behind their own previous accusations of corruption and force this premier and government back to the people of the province. In each case it was our very own NDP MPPs here in the North, the same MPPs now making the usual public statements about their concern for accountability and our northern interests, who sat on their hands at the expense of thousands of northern families.
The only party to stand for accountability and northern interests was the Progressive Conservative Party who have not only been holding this governments feet to the fire, but have been the hard working party uncovering all of this scandalous behavior to begin with.
So, I’m encouraged by the NDP’s new revelation toward finally putting the interest of the people of our province ahead of their own. Now I look forward to their unquestionable support, on the next occasion that will present itself to do so this month, to force this government, who by the NDP’s own inferred accusations is unaccountable and corrupt, to actually go to the people and seek their support for going forward. After all, when you tell northerners that you can be trusted to protect their backs and you’ve repeatedly suggested the unelected Premier and her government in power is hurting the North while being unaccountable, you couldn’t change faces and suddenly support that government staying in control of the vary affairs you are elected to protect, again … could you?
