MATHESON – Members of the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and the South Porcupine Forensic Identification Unit are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Labor in regards to a fatal mining accident which occurred at the Holt Mining Project which is an operation of St Andrews Goldfields Ltd.

The mine site is located approximately 60 kilometers east of Matheson on Highway 101, near the Quebec border.

The incident, which resulted in the loss of life to one man, occurred at approximately 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon on surface.

The scene is currently held under the control of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Michel FOURNIER BOLDUC, 26, of Rouyn, Quebec died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.

Next of kin notifications have been completed by members of the Surete de Quebec.

The Ontario Provincial Police is assisting the Coroner’s Office in relation to this event.

The investigation is on-going at present.
