Mr. Fireman charged after garbage bin arsons

On September 24, 2015 and September 26, 2015 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two reports of wooden garbage bins being set afire on Ferguson Road.

MOOSONEE – On September 24, 2015 and September 26, 2015 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two reports of wooden garbage bins being set afire on Ferguson Road.   

On September 24, 2015 the Moosonee OPP and the Moosonee Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire that had since been put out at a residence on Ferguson Road.

The homeowner advised that at some point overnight an unknown person had set his garbage bin on fire.

There was no damage to the structure of the residence.

Shortly after midnight on September 26, 2015 the Moosonee OPP and the Moosonee Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire at the old Moosonee Native Friendship Centre.

Upon arrival it was discovered that an unknown subject lit a garbage bin on fire and fled the area.

On October 2, 2015 the Moosonee OPP completed their investigation which resulted in Gabriel FIREMAN (22), of Moosonee Ontario, being arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of Arson – Damage to Property contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaking and is to appear in court on December 1, 2015 to answer to these charges.
