The locations of nine new Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachments have been selected as part of the next phase of the OPP Modernization initiative.

Moosonee will be receiving one of nine new detachments being built across the province that will enhance community safety and create new local jobs.

These new facilities will replace buildings at the end of their useful lifespan, and will be designed to the LEED Silver standard to reduce environmental impacts. The request for proposals for construction of the new detachments will be issued mid-2017.

The new Moosonee detachment will be located at 16 Butcher Road.

Quick facts

Phase two of the OPP Modernization is being delivered using Infrastructure Ontario’s Alternative Financing and Procurement model, an innovative way of financing and procuring large, complex public infrastructure projects, with a track record of being 96 per cent on budget and 73 per cent on time or within one month of the scheduled substantial completion date.

In the first phase of the OPP modernization project, Ontario replaced 18 detachments, regional headquarters and forensic identification services with 17 new facilities in 16 communities across Ontario.

The OPP polices 324 communities in Ontario and is responsible for patrolling 126,000 kilometres of highways.

Infrastructure Ontario, a Crown agency owned by the Province of Ontario, provides a wide range of services to support Ontario’s initiatives to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty.
