The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says they have made good progress on Monday extinguishing 13 forest fires across the Northeast.

On Sunday the forest fire threat forced residents from about 20 homes near Temagami to evacuate.

Nearby, Ontario Parks claims close to 450 campers were safely evacuated from Finlayson Point and Marten River provincial parks, which will remain closed for the time being.

The OPP is urging motorists traveling along Highway 11 between Marten River and Temagami to be cautious.

“At this time, members of the public are being asked to not stop along the highway to take photos of the fire and/or smoke, and to keep the flow of traffic going,” the OPP stated in a release.

Boaters are also being asked to stay off Lake Temagami in order allow the water bombers to land and to collect water on this lake for their fire suppression efforts.

A restricted fire zone is still in place in the region.
