Ontario Ministry of Labour inspectors issued 192 orders for violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to mining companies between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, 2015.

In a press release, the ministry said inspectors visited 78 mining workplaces across the province during that time period.

The orders included 16 orders to stop work on equipment in response to health and safety issues; 23 orders for not following required program guidelines and provincial modular training standard; and 153 orders for hazards involving equipment, protective barriers (e.g., fencing), safety precautions and ground conditions.

The ministry added employers have addressed all the issued orders.

The Ministry of Labour did not name any employers in its report, but Village Media has contacted the ministry for more information.
