MFN Hosts Fall Walleye Classic

The Mattagami Fur Council is excited to announce the First Annual Fall Classic Walleye Tournament being held September 7 & 8 at the Mattagami First Nation.

The Mattagami Fur Council is excited to announce the First Annual Fall Classic Walleye Tournament being held September 7 & 8 at the Mattagami First Nation.

The event is organized by the Mattagami First Nation, who is no stranger to hosting fishing tournaments and derbies over the past 14 years, including the most anticipated event that kicks off the Northern Ontario Walleye Trail (www.nowt.ca) each June.

The funds raised from the event will stay within the Mattagami First Nation community. “Mattagami Lake is known for its excellent fishing and our facilities are the perfect venue for us to demonstrate community and sponsor support for sport fishing”, says Cindy Mckay, one of the event’s organizers. “Proceeds from the event remain in our community to support programs for our youth, such as sports and equipment. In return for the support of the participants and sponsors, we put on the best event possible to ensure everyone has a great time.”

The Fall Walleye Classic is open to all anglers regardless of experience, skill or equipment. “The event attracts competitive anglers, sure, but anyone looking to spend a great weekend of fishing with friends and family while eyeing the prizes should not miss out!” elaborated Cindy Mckay. “It’s a good opportunity to get a taste of competitive angling in a fun environment while supporting our programs.” Entry fee is set at $250 per 2-person team with an optional entry into the Big Fish prizes for each day.

Top prize is up to $5000 with payouts up to 10th place. In addition to the payouts, draw prizes will be available from various sponsors of the event.
