Mayor Alan Spacek acclaimed in Kapuskasing

Kapuskasing Mayor Alan Spacek will be acclaimed and re-elected as mayor for the town in this year’s municipal election. Once the 2 p.m.

Kapuskasing Mayor Alan Spacek will be acclaimed and re-elected as mayor for the town in this year’s municipal election.

Once the 2 p.m. nomination deadline passed on Friday afternoon, Spacek was the lone candidate who filed for the mayor’s chair.

However, that was not the case for the councillor position has 10 people put forth their names for the six councillor positions on council.

Incumbent councillors Martin Credger, Martin Dinnissen, Laurier Guillemette, and Dave Plourde all put forth their names seeking re-election.

They will be joined in the race by newcomers Garry Dent, Joey Fortier, Aurel H. Godard, Richard (Rick) Lafleur, Frank Siebert, and Gilles Theberge.

Incumbent councillors Yvon Guertin and Emilie Lemieux did not put forth their nominations and are not seeking re-election this year.

For the race for school board trustee positions, only one candidate put forth their names in each of the respective school boards meaning they will all be acclaimed.

District School Board Ontario North East will be represented by Wayne Major.

Northeastern Catholic District School Board by Denis Lincez. Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l'Ontario will be represented by Vivian Theriault.

Conseil scolaire catholique de district des Grandes Rivières will be represented from Smooth Rock Falls to Opasatika by Bernard Laberge and in Kapuskasing by Daniel Grzela.

The election takes place October 27.
