Mary Tyler Moore, star of The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, died Wednesday.

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine,” said Moore’s publicist Mara Buxbaum in a statement released today. “A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

In 1969, she founded MTM Enterprises with her then-husband Grant Tinker. The company produced The Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as its three spin-offs Lou Grant, Rhoda and Phyllis. MTM also produced WKRP in Cincinnati, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, and many others.

Throughout her career, Moore won six Emmy Awards, a Tony Award for her Broadway role in Whose Life is it Anyway?, and earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a grieving mother in Ordinary People. She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1986, and was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Comedy from the American Comedy Awards the following year.
