The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a theft occurrence at a local grocery store in Timmins.

The theft suspect was confronted by store security after he had left the premises without paying for a number of items.

The suspect is alleged to have assaulted the security guard in order to make good his escape on Wednesday, July 20, during the noon hour.

During the course of the investigation, the Timmins Police Service was able to positively identify the suspect who was arrested on Friday, July 22 and held in police custody.

The Timmins Police have charged Peter Williams, 54, of no fixed address with:

  • One count of Theft - Under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Williams is awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
